Microsoft Mail - office mail for messaging within the office environment
Microsoft Mail is a feature that in incorporated into Microsoft Outlook that is meant for internal office communication. This is especially useful for users within the office that does not have a email address but are required to communication and share information within the office.
It is also useful for users that have only a multiple-recipients type of email address but are also required to communicate amongst themselves.
Popular at the time when mail servers and bandwidth are costly, Microsoft office mail are just post box style individual mailboxes stored on a central server. To date it is still being used in small to medium size office environment of 10 to 50 users.
The central server needs to be setup with Windows Messaging software which can be obtained from any Windows 98 CD at location \tools\oldwin95\message\intl.
However, you will need to make backups of mapi32.dll and mapisp32.exe because the Windows 98 version will replace your NT/2000 version during the installation process.
If they are replaced, you will need to copy the NT/2000 version of mapi32.dll and mapisp32.exe back into your Windows system32 folder.
If you did not install a correct copy of the above files, it will cause an error "The procedure entry point WNetEnumCachedPasswords could not be located in the dynamic link library MPR.dll."
I don't know of a better way to obtain a NT copy of Windows Messaging, thus this normally what I do. If you know of a better way, please let me know.
If you need to obtain a NT/2000 copy of mapi32.dll and mapisp32.exe, it is located on your Office 2000 CD at \PFILES\COMMON\SYSTEM\MAPI\1033\NT directory.
Another alternative would be to do an Office 2000 installation on your server after the above setup processes and the correct version will be in placed.
