System Mechanic 6  starts with a Control Center Interface with 5 Maintenance Menu & an Options tab:-
Clean, Fix, Maintain, Optimize, Protect & the Options setting.
Clean Menu covers:-
1. Getting Rid of System Junk – This selection will free up your disk space by removing unnecessary files that are no longer required but stays on your hard drive. This could be due to buggy programs that does not cleanup after running, temporary files that were created by hung programs, improper or unexpected system shutdown.
System Mechanic Pro 6 will find and remove these files safely. This safeguard the user from accidentally deleting important system files while clearing up the disk space. Once the junk files are found, you’ll just need to click on Remove and select Remove All Listed Files.
2. Eliminate Duplicate Files – will find and remove second copies of all files found, an option not only to free up your disk space, locates duplicates, but also a good feature for finding files with similar contents but under a different filename.
3. Clean Up Your Tracks – is as per the title implies, will clean up your surfing tracks, your recently opened documents, your search histories minus the spyware that comes with those free ones on the Internet.
4. Stop Web Popups – is a background application that will prevent websites you visited or the spywares lurking in your system from sending you big popups that cover what you’re looking at on the site you’re visiting.
This option will also filter out ads from known ad servers, even Google ads and the very one that System Mechanic 6 is using for advertising their products, Comission Junction. However, it is ineffective against filtering popups from spyware that is already installed and lurking in the system so if you’re still seeing popups, the problem is not with them.
5. Uninstall Software – This feature is useful when you have programs that you are unable to locate its uninstall option in Add/Remove Program or within the program menu.
Fix Menu covers;
1. Fix Registry Problems – which will clean up your registry of all the junks that have accumulated over the years. There will be entries in your registry that cannot be deleted when you uninstall a software. This function will remove these obselete entries and also invalid entries that it finds.
2. Fix Broken Shortcuts – as the name implies fixed any invalid shortcut to valid applications within your system. Cause of this could be moving of application folders and Fix Broken Shortcuts will correct it automatically without having the user to make the changes by hand, which is susceptible to errors.
Maintain Menu covers;
1. PC Maintenance Wizard – runs all function in Clean Menu, Fix Menu, Drive Defragmentation, This would be one of the more time consuming module and it is best to leave to running overnight or while you’re out.
