Cable modem services cost less, at an average price of $80 per month, but lines are shared among customers, not dedicated like DSL. The assumption that if the take up rate in your area were low, you would get more bandwidth compared to DSL no longer holds true as the cable companies starts to implement port throttling to limit heavy users from depriving others of their bandwidth.
